The gold pieces accrued throughout levels 1 and 2 can be used to buy special Tarot cards which enhance the players abilities in kicking ass through the maps. 2 Silver and 3 Gold Tarot cards are available. The Silver Tarot cards are Blessing, and Forgiveness; with the 3 Gold cards being Double Haste, Endurance and Fury. The method by which you gain the Tarot cards for your collection is by completing special tasks. For example, on level 1, in order to gain the card you must only use the stake gun to complete the level. On level 2, a card is provided if you do not pick up any armour at any point through the level. And on the Thor level, you must destroy him within 1 minute 20 seconds as mentioned previously.
The final, and sometimes the most fun (frustrating?) part of any single player FPS are the secrets. 4 secrets are hidden within Map 1. All of them include some jumping technique to get you to a window typically inaccessible if you’re the kind of player that just walks around and shoots things. Each secret is achieved by reaching an area typically containing a gold artifact. In some cases the gold artifacts can be seen from the street as a gold glow in a distant window. Others are hidden away, waiting for the patient gamer to search all locations hunting for that elusive secret. Rather than post the secrets here, I’m going to point you dircen's website and Theat's website for the best descriptions I’ve seen to date on finding all 4.
Multiplayer perspective
Being a long time player of online FPS games (Quakeworld, quake 3...), it was disappointing at first to find out that there would not be a multiplayer demo available for the public prior to release of the game. The interest that this game has generated in the online FPS playing public is amazing. There are those that avidly believe that the game will be the next Quake3, and those that ridicule the rest of us for hoping.
From the online work I’ve seen so far, the game certainly does have potential. Its clear that the refinement and polish that was applied to the Single Player demo has not made it to the Multiplayer side to the game as yet. This seems reasonable when you look back at the history of the development of this game, and find that Multiplayer aspect was considered as an extension of the project and not its first aim. I gather that PCF have virtually completed the Single player side and are hard at work on the Multiplayer now. As Brian Gladman of DreamCatcher told me shortly after the SP demo was released:
[16:35] [W4rh0g] i gather the MP has stalled with the demo release
[16:35] [bglad-DC] not at all
[16:35] [W4rh0g] is it 110% MP from now on?
[16:35] [bglad-DC] pretty much
[16:36] [W4rh0g] \o/
One major disappointment is the closing of the Beta trials, and the lack of public trials. Having been through the Q3Test period of time, and seen the amount of information that ID gleaned about bugs relating to peoples PC set-ups/hardware/software, I think that PCF and DC may have dropped the ball on this front. Still... There’s time to go yet and it seems like Developers are a dedicated set of individuals working hard to bring us next generation physics, visuals and gameplay. Both for the Single Player, and the online masses.
I congratulate PCF and DC on an excellent SP Demo, wish them the best of luck with the MP side, and am keeping all fingers crossed for a kick ass game!
