xiLe Painkiller 2v2 TDM Cup

xiLe clan have announced that they will be holding a 2v2 TDM cup starting on April 30th May 7th. The Cup will consist of 32 teams and will be played according to the relevant CPL rules through a double elimination tournament. Two maps will be played per match, from sacred, psycho, cursed and illuminati; with a possible deciding map played in the event of a draw.

Painkiller filters for QTracker

Blowfish showed how to set up ASE to recognize PK++ servers lately. Here is how to configure QTracker. Unfortunately, QTracker doesn’t pull detailed information from Painkiller servers at the moment, so there is no way to distinquish between PK++ servers and Vanilla PK with current QTracker version 3.82. I talked to the programmer lately and he promised ASE-formatted queries for Painkiller (to get this information) will be included in the next release of QTracker.

Anyway. First of all, make sure QTracker starts PK++ when you connect to a server. Go to “View/Settings…” and make the following adjustments:

Writing filters is not very difficult. Open your favorite text-editor (notepad will do) and type in the following:

This is what a minimal filter looks like. Note that both “description” and “game” are required. The first one is used as display name for your filter in QTracker, the latter one denotes the game this filter is for of course.The last line checks if the version number contains the string “1.64”, thus resulting in only showing servers that run version 1.64.

Save your file anywhere on your harddisc. Just make sure it has the extension “.qtf”. Some editors automatically add “.txt” as extension, so double-check that the file is named “.qtf” and not “.qtf.txt” for example. If you did everything right, the the file will have a QTracker symbol if you look at it in Explorer. Now just double-click this file and an installer window will pop-up that guides you through the procedure of installing the filter. In QTracker, you can activate the filter in “Servers/Filters/Game…”. Check the entry “Painkiller/Painkiller 1.64” — done!

FireBlade Jitterbug Fix

Over on the CPL forums, Fireblade has posted a solution for players with nvidia graphics cards and audigy sound cards, experiencing occasionally hitching while playing PK.

The fix includes installing the latest drivers for each piece of hardware, as well as some tweaks and checks.

The results of the tweak are to improve the smoothness of rendering within PK, as well as resolving the occasional hitching experienced by some gamers with this configuration.

IndeWEB Cup Hits Quarter Finals

Tonight saw IndeWEB (www.indiweb.de) host the second day of their Painkiller Challenge Cup #1. The Cup consists of single elimination brackets, starting from a huge 128 players. The Cup makes use of the CPL rules, and latest PK++ over an astonishing 25 servers.

As partly expected, early rounds had a large number of defaults. But the later rounds provides some interesting results; most notably, Aim beating Stelam, and Worre beating Ztrider. The games were covered live by TsN (www.tsncentral.com) by TsN|Stile and TsN|Dusty.

The final games take place on the Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th next week with the top three going on to recieve mouse and mousemats as prizes.

SombrA leaves Alliance

SK-gaming (http://www.sk-gaming.com/scene/7696/) has reported that SombrA, the top Spanish PK player has left his team Alliance eSports due to staff difficulties.

I am going to practice very hard to be well prepared for the WT stop in Barcelona. I want to show my skills to possible teams to join because I want to attend as many tour stops as possible. Having the stop in Spain is a very lucky situation and will hopefully make me even stronger

DM_1v1_meatless Version 1.0

Days after the announcement of meatless being added to the CPL World Tour maplist, we bring you the final release of DM_1v1_meatless! For those of you who never looked at the map in its beta stages, here are some screenshots of the final product and a list some of the map’s features:

-Thoroughly tested and largely approved 1 versus 1 gameplay
-Amazingly fun for 2 versus 2 gameplay as well
-Varying artistic theme which allows spectators and players to easily distinguish between different areas on the map
-Fast-paced gameplay which still manages to make for close, intense matches

PK++ ASE Filter

To set up ASE to separate PK++ servers from VPK servers, do the following:

1. Open ASE
2. Filter|New
3. Add in the filter string

1 if modname ~!= “*PK++*” remove

4. Open the filter on the right-hand panel, now showing PK++ servers.

If you want to be more advanced you can separate them by PK++ version number also, since PK++ gives the version in modname, such as: PK++


Some of you may know me from the official Painkiller forums. I’m the one who’s working on the singleplayer mod Powermad. For those of you who don’t know what this is, here are its features in a nutshell. It reactivates cheats that have been disabled in the retail version of Painkiller/BOOH, adds new ones and additional features, and it also fixes a lot of (singleplayer related) bugs in Painkiller/BOOH. Recently as I went through some of the scripts trying something else, an idea for a new feature for this mod came to my mind. I didn’t know where this would be heading towards in the first place, but after I finished it (took me little more than two hours!), I was quite impressed by the results. It was only then that I actually began to realize what I had done, and I checked for multiplayer compatibility. I was shocked, because with little to no changes, this new feature also works in multiplayer. Yes, I’m talking about auto-aiming, or as you most likely would call it: an aimbot.

First I only tried to use it locally. I started a listen server and used PK++ bots to check if it’s working. It is.

It took me another twenty minutes to teach the bot what “ping” is and how it should be handled. I started a first real world test on one of the CPL servers yesterday (I365 CPL 1v1 8). I met someone there waiting for an opponent, and he was friendly enough to test with me for a few minutes. PK++ is running server-side, but I got the “authenticated” message without any problems. We only used warm-up. I ping ~160 to that server, but no matter how hard he tried… it took just a few seconds to bring him down to zero using the minigun. I tested again just an hour ago (on some other server) to record a video of it. Here are some movies:

Singleplayer, Abandonded factory level. That’s the way this mod was meant to be used.

Multiplayer, local PK++ listen server, against one of the bots.

Multiplayer, online, PK++, this guy just picked up mh and ga.

Ok. Why am I posting this? Some people told me it would have been better I never talked to anyone about this. But you see, writing this bot was so easy I still can’t believe it. Anyone with some programming skills can do it. In fact, I’m wondering if some of these are already out there, because it’s hard to believe no one tried to write one yet. Furthermore, Painkillers cheat protection seems to be the worst of all games I have seen so far. So I decided to publish what I found out (don’t worry, not the bot itself). I think the more people know about this, the more complaints will be raised, and the higher chances are this will be fixed and/or improved soon.

Dignitas PK Spotlight 12 – Daler

Team Dignitas: In europe in preparation for the first WT stop in Turkey we saw a few bootcamps going on, SK and Fnatic, Fatal1ty and Team Dignitas also play.it. How was it on the other side of the pond, did you bootcamp?

daler: I traveled up to New York to bootcamp with Wombat, Cha0ticz, Destrukt, DJ, Geoff, Brett, Thump4. I stayed at Cha0ticz’s place and we all played at Web2Zone, a lan center in New York City. This definitely helped me tons in preparing for Turkey. It is amazing how many things I do before the bootcamp and those things I do after, a completely new player and strats. I hope to be able to bootcamp with the same players for future tournaments.

Server Autoupdating!

This one is important, so its being posted as an article – hopefully well see more servers following this path.

PK++ offers many things, but the most important is the fact the game is being continuously updated. Steamfish aids gamers to be able to keep up to date with the latest patches/maps*, but this is slightly harder for servers.

For Windows servers it is possible to make use of Steamfish to be updated also, as discussed here:


For Windows this allows the server to undergo a full update when an rcon quit is issued by an admin/gamer on the server.

For Linux hosting, some great work has been done by i365-klaude in developing a Steamfish version for Linux.


The work consists of a shell script that installs and updates PK++ for Linux PK servers. This hugely reduces the amount of work which is required by a server admin. If coupled with a similar run/update/run script as in the Windows example, Linux servers can be made to obey the same autoupdate behaviour.

IndiWEB Painkiller Challenge

IndiWEB, www.indiweb.de, have announced their Painkiller Challenge. The Challenge consists of a series of ten cups, the first of which will take place during Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th of April with the finals on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th of April. Prizes will be available for each of the cups, and you can find details of the cup prizes on the IndiWEB site.

At the end of the cups, a grand final will be held for which the 32 top players will be invited to play for a real cash prize.

I grew up playing quakeworld at a high level and then took a pretty long break from fps gaming to play tennis at a division 1 college. After coming back from college I saw a game called painkiller that came out and I figured id give it to shot to see how good I was compared to this generation of gamers.

Meatless Added to CPL Map List

The CPL (www.thecpl.com) has announced that it is to include DM_Meatless as one of the four maps in the primary map list for the World Tour. DM_Meatless is currently included as part of the Steamfish update, so no doubt most gamers already have it on their machines, as well as (hopefully )it being on most servers.

PK++ hits v1.0!!

v1.0 of PK++ is now available for download via your friendly SteamFish Updater tool. If you dont have a previous version of PK++, download Steamfish installer first and run it.

Version 1.0 has only the following change:

CHANGE: Minor alteration to rocketfix based on mass public testing. Tweaking now locked.

Hopefully this locking of the rocketfix variables will allow a standard to be set for all play in the future.

CAL Painkiller Update

CAL-PK administrators are proud to announce that CAL-Painkiller season two will host a 2v2 Team Deathmatch league. Maps for the 2v2 league are not yet set in stone. At this point, the maps CAL is considering for 2v2 include Sacred, Cursed, Meatless, and Lukin. We are open to suggestions, so please submit your suggestions here or on the CAL forum.

In the CAL-PK 1v1 Open and Invite leagues, the maplist will only include maps that are on the primary maplist for the CPL World Tour. This will help to promote the maps designated by the CPL as the superior Painkiller competition maps. This will also provide further incentive for the top Painkiller players to join in and play in the Invite league because they will only have to focus on maps that will be played in the World Tour.

The 16 players who made it to the second round of Season 1 playoffs will be invited to the Painkiller Invite league tonight. Additional players will be invited in the following weeks. Expect to see some great competition in Season 2!

Yes, another Faces Of Destruction film…FOD6, The Agony Scene. I would like the community to help me out on this one. I figure with the World Tour underway, its a good time to get some hard action on video. Yes, this time around I will feature more people (not just raz). Ill keep you guys posted.
