CPL to use Fallen2te + no BOOH

The CPL have just let me know that they will be using default Painkiller for the Winter event and not Battle Out of Hell, due to the delay that was announced yesterday. They also said that there may be some late changes to the version used in the event, as there is a 1.4 update due sometime soon.

Aside from that, they also let it known that they will be using the tweaked version of DM_Fallen2; DM_Fallen2te.

IGN Review Painkiller: BooH

It seems IGN have had the first pleasure of reviewing the much awaited Painkiller: Battle Out of Hell. IGN seem to have enjoyed what they have seen though, which is a big plus for all you Painkiller SinglePlayer fans.

Screenshots:

Carnage! Carnage! Carnage!

“The game is coated in supernatural Gothic madness, but you hardly noticed most of the time because somethings flying at you. When somethings not, like in the majority of the haunted orphanage at the beginning of the game, Battle out of Hell briefly transcends the modest trappings of a shameless gorefest and becomes a little bit creepy. Your flashlight flickers and buzzes and doesnt shine very far. You can hear things rattling and groaning in the distance, and torchlight flickers in a gritty, dank corridor. Then a wave of skeleton zombies teleports from the bottom of a staircase, and its on.”

*UPDATE*

Over on the DC forums, Adrian has given his reaction to the review.

[PCF]Adrian: “But generally this review is an example of something I call “game journalist mood switch”. Here in Poland I have many friends who work in gaming mags and they all have one thing in common: if the game is to their taste, they easily skip all bad things about it and focus on good.”

TsN : Feel The Pain #3

TsN just finished up the 3rd broadcast of their program Feel The Pain. Each week the guys get together to discuss the recent happenings in the newly revived community of Painkiller. Tonight they spoke about topics such as the new Painkiller expansion pack released this month; Battle out of Hell, the CPL winter tournament, and as always, the CPL world tour. TsN also anounced that Painkiller black edition will be the game used in the CPL world tour, as stated by Angel Munoz on the CPL forums.

Each week TsN also bring in a player from the community to be interviewed by TsN. This week that player was the American new guy Wreck, who as you may know took 5th place at the CPL summer Painkiller tournament. After the interview Wreck then has to go up against another player from the community, for this job TsN brought in the player known as PFB (Pink Fluffy Bunny). Lets hope this guys name doesnt reflect his playing style!

TsN decided Sacred would be the only map played tonight, best of 3. The scores from the matches were as follows:

Wreck 13 : 11 PFB
Wreck 23 : 0 PFB

Some very different scores in the matches, and even though we were unable to watch it, its always fun to listen to the Painkiller matches shoutcasted by TsN.

Anybody who missed the broadcast will be able to download it from the TsN website after it is uploaded tomorrow.

CPL Insta-Community

I got bored, so I figured I’d do a little rant about how I’ve seen things change in the last few weeks.

We are all well aware of Painkiller being the World tour game by now (unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last few weeks) and a lot of us have mixed views on it. Anyway, I’m not here to talk about that, I’m here to talk about the effect the CPL announcement has had on the game.

Just a month or 2 ago, Painkiller.euro was pretty much dead in the water. We have active IRC channels for all websites we run, and we noticed a huge drop in people on the Painkiller side of things. After CPL summer, a channel of around 250 people went down to about 15, which as you can see.. is a very very big drop. 🙂

Then came the World Tour announcement, which attracted a lot of gamers world wide to tune into the announcement which was broadcasted by TsN. Everyone was eager, and all hoping it was their game.. however, Painkiller got chosen. I’ve never seen such things in my life.. from the very same hour the game got announced, #Painkiller.euro went from 15 people to 100. It was amazing. The CPL had created a community within a few hours. The game was certainly dead before the announcement, then bam, suddenly everyone starts turning up. The website was getting all kind of hits, and new people signing up, it truely was amazing to see.

Ofcourse, we at Painkiller.euro were overwhelmed with what we had seen, we want nothing more than to see a very big community blossom with the help of us. We run the website for the community, and we run the IRC channel for the community. You all have your say.

We currently have about 830 unique members signed up at our web-site, and we get thousands and thousands of non-signed up people viewing the site every single day. I think it’s a very cool thing that has happened, and I’m glad to be apart of it. Whether people like the idea of Painkiller being the game for the World Tour or not, it’s still very cool to be apart of this community we have now.

We have a whole year to go through yet, and it’s still growing each day. I’m sure by the middle of 2005, we will have nearly double of what we have now, if not triple. Also, with BooH due out tomorrow, I’m sure that will bring quite a lot of new folk, as does every new release.

Thanks for your time, and help us keep the community growing. 😀
