Sujoy Interview

Doing some browsing, I came across an interview today between Sujoy Roy and Hexus.net. For those old skool players out there that remember the classic Quakeworld battles between the US and EU, I’m sure you’ll remeber ole Sujoy. Check it out HERE.

N: Why is it that some games go on to the pro gaming “scene” despite being naff? (Painkiller being an example)
S: It’s all about money at the end of the day. Who’s got the money? The publishers have… they’re the ones who can invest in the gaming market as that’s what they do. It’s down to them which games will be played in tournaments as they’ll pay for the prizes to be won playing their game. Painkiller is CPL’s game of choice as CPL wanted an exclusive license, so Painkiller is what they got. DreamCatcher are willing to put money behind it and push it as the CPL official game, which in turn makes people buy it to then be able to compete… That’s how it’s going to be in the future. The hardware sponsors will provide the kit to play on, but the actual prize money is going to come more and more from publishers. Look at how huge EA are, they can afford to spend money purely on prize pots for competitions.

Automatic Update for PK++ Server

The following batch file will:

1. Keep your Windows server online
2. Update automatically to the latest PK++ whenever you restart it

It is recommended you set an rcon password, so that you can connect and \rcon quit to force a server restart.

If you are running Painserver.exe or any other executable you will need to edit the commandline as applicable.

Create a batch file with the following text in \bin\ , use at your own risk:

:start
painkiller -dedicated -cfg config.ini -lscripts pkplus.pak -start
rem crude wait to make sure pk has quit
PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 30000 >NUL
cd ..\data\
updater.exe silent
cd ..\Bin\
goto start

WT final vo0 vs. zyz

The CPL WT final was vo0 vs zyz. We all know that the CPL admins closed all gameserver after the game, directly. So it should not egsist a demo of the final match. But www.mymtw.de will upload the final, ripped version of the tsn coverage in 800×6 00 .The match will be arround 500mb .

Converting 1.62 Demos to 1.64

Firstly grab the CPL demos here: http://x6.profezgaming.com/

You then need to hex edit the demo to alter the version number which is near the start of the file.

Download a freeware hex editor here, and open the demo file using it.

http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm

On the first line or so, on the right hand side, you will see a 1.62, change the 2 to a 4 to make 1.64. Save, watch 🙂

CAL Painkiller

CAL has recently announced a PK-Invite league. It will be made up of the people who make it to the 2nd round of season 1 playoffs and certain other invites.

There also seems to be a bit of interest in the community for a CAL PK 2v2 league. However, before one can be started, we need a significant number of teams. For anyone who is interested, please post your teams name, your name, and your partners name on this thread. Post them in that order and please just one post per team.

Thanks for your continued support.
